Changing your name after marriage or divorce

Deed poll and Statutory Declaration Change Name Documents online for £10

Changing your name after marriage

You do not need a Deed Poll or Statutory Declaration change of name document if you simply use your husband's surname after marriage. You will need to send a copy of your marriage certificate with a covering letter to any company or organisation who you wish to inform of your name change, and your documents and records will be changed to show your new surname.

If you wish to change your name to a Double-Barreled name however, you will need a change of name Deed Poll or Statutory Declaration document to prove your new surname.

Changing your name after divorce

After getting divorced, you will be able to go back to your maiden name simply by presenting your marriage certificate and your decree absolute to the organisations. Some organisations may not agree to change your name back without a Deed Poll or Statutory Declaration document to prove your surname change.
